Storsjöyran 2026 – tips, artists & accommodation in Östersund
Storsjöyran is something of its own. It isn't a normal festival on a big field outside of town – it's a city festival that takes over the whole of central Östersund for two intense days.
In 2026 it runs 31 July – 1 August. Artists include Thomas Stenström, Molly Sandén, Magnus Uggla, The Ark, Orup and many more. As usual it's a mix of big names and more unexpected acts across several stages right in the middle of town.
What Yran feels like on site
What makes Storsjöyran special is how integrated it is with the city. Stages are spread out, people move between them, and the whole centre takes on a different energy. Krogstråket usually opens the week before and becomes its own little world with food, drink and music.
People who've been before say the same thing: it's easy to just wander and soak up the atmosphere. You don't need a locked-in schedule – you can drift and see what happens.
Practical tips from people who live here
- A central place to stay is invaluable. There are lots of people around during Yran, and being able to walk back to your room in a few minutes helps enormously. (We at Hotel Emma tend to be fully booked well in advance for exactly these days.)
- Bring comfortable shoes. You'll do plenty of walking.
- Check the programme on yran.se in advance, but leave room for spontaneous decisions.
- Food and drink are everywhere, but expect queues at the most popular places.
- It runs late – stages often play past midnight.
Getting around during the festival
Because everything happens in the centre, walking is easiest. From Hotel Emma on Prästgatan it's a short walk to most of the stages and to Krogstråket. Many guests appreciate exactly that – no taxis or buses, just move around freely.
If you need a break from the crowds, it's easy to slip down to Badhusparken and Storsjön for a while. Just a few minutes and a good breather. Read more about Badhusparken and Surfbukten.
For those coming other times of year
Even if we're often fully booked during Storsjöyran, Östersund is just as good the rest of the summer (and the rest of the year). Many people who've been here during the festival come back later to experience the city at a calmer pace – Jamtli, Storsjön, fishing, outdoor terraces and just walking around the centre.
Short summary
Storsjöyran 2026 takes place 31 July–1 August in central Östersund. It's a city festival with big energy, multiple stages and a very particular atmosphere. If you already have somewhere to stay in town, all you need to do is enjoy it – everything is close by.
